Gilcombe Farm site update — 8th July

With 3 weeks to go before the festival and considering the recent weather conditions, this morning we had a layout and planning session on the fields at Gilcombe Farm, Bruton.

See our pics from this morning. The sun even came out for us!

As sports turf drainage specialist in charge of Olympic venues, and last months Euro 2012, we had Charles Henderson of STRI Ltd come view our new Farmfest site for drainage prior to selecting the fields for use this year.

Charles carried out an assessment of the site looking at existing grass cover and drainage levels of existing soil.

Charles' assessment concluded the site to contain high levels of natural drainage due to combination of the mature root development that has structured soil, underlying sandstone geology and accumulation of a protective layer of surface organic matter. As such, the site will be able to withstand periods of rainfall leading into and during the event before bad conditions occur. As a vote of confidence he'll be turning up in flip flops only.

It is a perfect festival setting as it dries out in a few days and remains hard underfoot even after heavy rain.

Sunrise Festival was held on the same farm in mid June. However, we will be using different fields, meaning our camping and event fields have been largely unaffected by their event. See the pictures on the right!
